The Groups feature allows you to sort employees into various clusters in the application to meet reporting, communication, and management requirements.

  1. There is no limit to how many groups you can create in your system.
  2. There is no limit to how many employees may be assigned to a particular group.
  3. There is no limit to how many groups a single employee can be a member of.

How are Groups Used?

There are several ways groups may be used in the system. Three common uses are outlined below.

REPORTS

You may already know that your system features robust reporting functionality. The ability to filter by group drives even more value. Click to enlarge the example below.

COMMUNICATION AND PROCESS

Groups can simplify business communications and workflows, too. For example, a notification or HR checklist can be distributed to specified groups, or a group may be added as the recipient in a workflow. Click to enlarge the example below.

EMPLOYEE ACCESS AND MANAGEMENT

Groups are used to grant designated employees view/edit/approve permissions over other employees. For example, a group may be used so a payroll clerk can see the timesheets of a specific group of employees. Another group may be used to allow a department manager to edit the timesheets of employees working in that department. More on group permissions is covered in the next section.
